Dave Johnson's system
(Orangevale, CA)

I got started on 47 Lab gear while searching the internet for a new set of interconnects. I happened upon a thread at an audio related site where a lot of guys were raving on and on about this little wire called OTA.
I really loved the fact that 47 Labs had the guts to say 'here it is, it isn't big or fat and it doesn't have a braided cover and come in a walnut box,... it sounds good.' What a concept. I really like the design philosophy of Junji Kimura and more importantly his design philosophies sound great. The Gaincard amp in my system plays amazingly detailed, natural, rhythmic, liquid, airy, and honestly enjoyable MUSIC.
I am really happy with the sound lately with the most recent addition being the Europa 2 way speakers. The time and phase coherent design really meshes well with the rhythmic qualities of the 47 Lab gear. I'm still blown away at how these speakers have opened up my cd collection for me. I haven't tried a single driver loudspeaker like the Essence with the Jordan driver or a Lowther based design but I'm sure that time will come.

- JPS in wall AC wiring for one dedicated circuit , using an FIM outlet
- Romex (10GA.) for the other dedicated circuit, w/ a double cry'od Hubbell 5632 outlet
- .6 gauge OTA power cords with Furutech hardware
- .4 gauge "nude" OTA, painted, used throughout
- Wadia 830 cd player
- Golden Sound Jumbo cones under cdp
- Neuance shelving - isolation platforms under cdp and Gaincard
- 47 Labs Gaincard with one Humpty (25 x 2)
- Green Mountain Europa speakers (4 ohm)
- Osiris 24" speaker stands, lead/sand filled
- Apollo Aria 455 equipment rack
The removal of the insulation and painting of the OTA was the proverbial jaw dropper in terms of improved sound . This was certainly the 'biggest bang for the buck' tweak that I've come across recently. Thanks to Yoshi for that one. It's looking like the C37 coated OTA will be next tweak to try.
Another noticeably big step up in sound was the addition of the Neuance isolation shelves, particularly when placed under the Wadia. I wish I wouldn't have waited so long to use these shelves in my system. They really made a big difference.
The JPS wire in the dedicated circuit is a nice sounding addition also. I've discovered recently that it sounds much better than my Romex line. I need to put the same outlets on each line so I can make a viable comparison.
I like the Wadia very much and plan to either have it modded by Great Northern Sound or possibly add a Shigaraki DAC. Hovering in the back of my mind is the lust for the Flatfish/Progression or the Shig transport/dac combo that I really need to round out the 47 Lab sound.
I've enjoyed meeting some very knowledgeable, helpful, and really great guys like Yoshi and Sead of 47 Labs, Ken from Greater Ranges(Neuance), Roy of Green Mountain Audio, Steve at Great Northern, Jim at Harmonic Technologies (Furutech) and of course the guys on the 47 Lab forum that freely share their experiences and offer helpful suggestions that have really saved me a lot of time putting my system together.
